Maine Hire-A-Vet Campaign 2024

The results are in!  Thanks to your energy, efforts, and enthusiasm, 191 Veterans and family members were placed into meaningful employment during the campaign.  This almost doubled our goal of 100 Veteran hires.  The average hourly wage was $28.31.  Our top hiring employers included Bath Iron Works, Bonney Staffing, Northern Light Health and the State of Maine.  Over 280 employers and resource providers delivered employment opportunities and resources to 237 job seekers, 97 of them being Veterans.

We can’t do this campaign alone.  It takes a broad range of contributions to make the campaign a success.  Of note, thank you to our host sites of the Augusta Civic Center, University of Maine Presque Isle, Poland Spring, and York County Community College for their support and hospitality.  Also, a very special thank you to Sport Clips for providing complimentary haircuts to Veterans.

Employers wishing to be recognized for your recruitment and retention of Veterans can attend a no cost virtual seminar on the HIRE Vets Medallion Recognition Program.  Your State of Maine Veterans Employment Team can help arrange an in-person or virtual information session upon request.  If interested contact Program Manager Leo Deon at leo.j.deon@maine.gov or Veterans’ Representative Brad Bean at bradley.bean@maine.gov.

We are also getting ready to start our planning efforts for 2025.  For now, mark your calendars for our campaign kick-off and opening ceremony on August 14, 2025 at the Augusta Civic Center.  Additional locations and dates will be forthcoming.
